About the Program

Inclusive Judo is a gentle, skill-based movement program designed to give people of all abilities the opportunity to have a go, build confidence, and participate in a structured physical activity in a safe and supportive environment.

The program draws on the principles of judo — balance, awareness, controlled movement, and cooperation — rather than competition or combat. Sessions are adapted to suit individual abilities, comfort levels, and experience, and are delivered at a pace that prioritises safety, confidence, and enjoyment.

Inclusive Judo is not about fighting. There is no competition, no pressure to perform, and no expectation of physical strength. Instead, the focus is on learning how bodies move, how to work with others respectfully, and how to participate in a shared activity with confidence.

Who It’s For

Inclusive Judo is suitable for:

  • People with disability who want to try a structured movement activity
  • Participants who may feel excluded or uncomfortable in traditional sport environments
  • Individuals looking to build confidence with movement and coordination
  • Community members seeking inclusive, non-competitive physical activity

No previous experience with judo or martial arts is required.

What Participants Gain

Participants may develop:

  • Increased confidence with movement and body awareness
  • Improved balance, coordination, and spatial awareness
  • Greater comfort participating in group activities
  • Practical skills for moving safely and confidently
  • A sense of achievement from trying something new

The emphasis is always on participation and capability, not outcomes or performance.

How Sessions Are Delivered

Sessions are delivered in a calm, structured, and inclusive environment and may include:

  • Simple movement and warm-up activities
  • Balance and coordination exercises
  • Partner or group activities based on cooperation, not force
  • Adapted techniques using mats, chairs, or other supports where appropriate
  • Plenty of rest breaks and opportunities to opt in or out

Activities are adjusted to suit individual needs and preferences, ensuring participants feel safe, supported, and respected at all times.

Our Approach

Inclusive Judo at the Cudal Enable Hub is guided by the following principles:

  • Inclusion – Everyone participates at their own level, without pressure or judgement
  • Skill-Based Participation – Focus on learning and confidence, not winning or ranking
  • Safety First – Clear boundaries, controlled activities, and respectful facilitation
  • Choice and Consent – Participants choose how and when they engage
  • Community Connection – Encouraging positive interaction and shared experience

Important Note

Inclusive Judo is delivered as a skill-building participation activity.

It is not a clinical, therapeutic, or treatment service, and does not replace physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or other health-based supports. Where appropriate, participants are encouraged to engage with qualified health or support professionals for clinical needs.
